Ecotat Gardens and Arboretum
Ecotat Gardens and Arboretum is owned and operated by Ecotat Trust, a 501 (c) (3) formed in 1995.
The mission of Ecotat Trust is to preserve and expand the gardens and
trails for the enjoyment and use of future generations. The name
"Ecotat" was formed by combining portions of the words "ecological" and
"habitat" - words describing the 88 acres of land located on Route 2 in
Hermon, Maine, at the intersection with Annis Road at the top of Miller
Hill.
The acreage is home to over 60 gardens containing 280 varieties of
trees, over 1500 varieties of perennials, and an abundance of animals,
birds and insects.
Visitors can enjoy tours of the gardens during the growing season,
hikes through fall foliage or cross country ski on trails during the
winter. The Mary Blethen Memorial Library, established by the Bangor
Nature Club, is open three days a week in season. Visitors may browse
through books on gardening and nature.
Open daily from dawn to dusk, the gardens are free of charge and offer
visitors, members and volunteers alike the opportunity to enjoy,
enhance and learn more about Maine's ecological habitat. Special summer
programs enhance enjoyment of the gardens. Come join us!!
